When it comes to summer radio promotions for a worthy cause, KFMW Rock 108 in Waterloo, IA might be eating the competition’s lunch.

The station’s “Lunchbox Heroes” program – in partnership with Built by Pros, a group of locally-based unions representing contractors, skilled trade workers and suppliers – brings lunch to workers in designated outdoor job sites twice monthly between May and September, with live broadcasts featuring morning host Brian Marshall and PM driver Ned.

The aim of “Lunchbox Heroes” is to draw attention to opportunities for employment and apprenticeships in skilled trades – which, according to data referenced by NRG, are the toughest to fill in the U.S., making exposure of the jobs to a wide audience important.

“It’s a perfect synergy between our audience and the trade craftspeople of Eastern Iowa,” Market Manager Allyson Hillman says.  “These are the people who build our offices, manufacturing plants, churches and schools – literally, the things our audience relies on every day.”
