|Fremont Recognized For Broadcast Excellence!|
After a big news year in Fremont, Nebraska, NRG Media stations NewsTalk1340 KHUB, Gold 105.5 and Country 97.3 KBLR were recognized and awarded several journalism awards for 2010.
News Director Bill Dickson and Sports Director Rich Ray were invited by the Northwest Broadcast News Association in Minneapolis in early April to accept the awards on behalf of NRG Media – Fremont. Both attended the Midwest Journal Journalism Conference and the NBNA Awards Banquet. Ray received a first place finish for best play-by-play in a small market. He called one of the best games of his career, Fremont Archbishop Bergan vs. Ravena. Ray says, “It’s really nice for the stations to be recognized for our work.” Dickson accepted three awards including 2 first place finishes for best spot news in small market and best radio documentary/special programming for the community.
Dickson and JJ Morgan conducted a week-long special chronicling Fremont’s ordinance targeting illegal immigrants. Both Dickson and Morgan invited guests to talk about the pros and cons of the law climaxing with a debate between Omaha Immigration Attorney Amy Peck and Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach.
“I’m extremely excited our station won these awards,” said Dickson. “I believe this demonstrates our commitment to local news and our community.
